The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a series of weather warnings for very cold, wet and windy conditions across KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Northern Cape.
SAWS said wet and windy conditions are expected across much of KwaZulu-Natal, while very cold conditions are forecast for parts of the Chris Hani and Joe Gqabi districts in the Eastern Cape.
Very cold, wet and windy conditions are also expected in parts of Namakwa in the Northern Cape and the interior of the Western Cape.
An Orange Level 5 warning has been issued for severe thunderstorms over the east-central parts of the Northern Cape. The storms could cause flooding, wind and hail damage, falling trees and disruption to municipal services.
Yellow Level 4 warnings have also been issued for severe thunderstorms and damaging winds across parts of the Northern Cape, Free State, North West and KwaZulu-Natal.
SAWS is further warning of damaging winds and waves along coastal areas, with possible disruptions to ports, harbours and navigation.
A Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive rainfall has been issued for parts of the Eastern Cape, where localised flooding of settlements, roads, low-lying areas and bridges is possible.
The weather service has also warned of extremely high fire danger conditions in parts of the Free State, North West and Limpopo.
