Former Hawks members face corruption charges in Mthatha

Two former Hawks members, Captain Given Makhubele and Jacob Tyantini, appeared before the Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on 3 September 2026 on corruption charges.

The case stems from allegations that the pair solicited R400 000 from a business owner to have a criminal docket withdrawn and destroyed.

The complainant later agreed to pay R10 000 and reported the matter to the Hawks. An operation was conducted, resulting in the arrest of the suspects after the alleged transaction, with cash believed to be linked to the deal recovered.

The case was provisionally withdrawn in 2023 pending further investigation. Following the completion of investigations, the accused were summoned back to court.

The matter was postponed to 5 February 2027. Both accused remain out on warning.
