More than 300 commuters have been affected after two Tshwane Bus Service vehicles were damaged during Spring Day celebrations in Gauteng.
The two buses were taken off the road following separate incidents of vandalism on Tuesday, disrupting services for commuters, including pupils and students who rely on public transport.
Tshwane Bus Service condemned the attacks, saying community members had damaged public assets meant to serve them.
Videos shared by the bus operator showed people climbing and jumping on the roof of a bus at what appeared to be a taxi rank. Other footage showed a bus with a shattered window and young people throwing water at a moving vehicle.
The damage forced the affected buses out of service, leaving hundreds of passengers without their usual transport.
Spring Day celebrations often involve water fights and large gatherings, but this year’s festivities were also marred by a fatal stabbing.
A 21-year-old man was killed following an altercation in Refilwe Extension 3 in Cullinan.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing.
