SAWS warns of severe weather from Thursday

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of cold, wet and windy conditions across parts of the Western and Northern Cape from Thursday into Friday.

Very cold temperatures, disruptive rainfall, flooding, strong winds and damaging waves of up to 5.5 metres are expected in some areas.

SAWS has issued Yellow Level 4 warnings for flooding, damaging winds and dangerous coastal conditions.

As the system moves east over the weekend, parts of the Free State, Gauteng, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and North West could experience a sharp temperature drop, heavy rain and severe thunderstorms.

Snowfall is also possible over the Eastern Cape Drakensberg and high-lying areas of Lesotho.

Residents and motorists are urged to monitor weather warnings and take precautions, particularly in flood-prone and mountainous areas.
