Law enforcement officers have seized knives and scissors, executed an arrest warrant and arrested a foreign national during a crime crackdown in Lusikisiki.
The joint Operation Basadi 2026 operation was carried out on Wednesday, 26 August, with officers targeting motorists and pedestrians along the R61 near Mavovana and in the Lusikisiki CBD.
Police searched 717 people and 263 vehicles, recovering 12 knives and two pairs of scissors.
Traffic officials issued fines amounting to R20,500, while one person wanted on an outstanding warrant was arrested. Bail was set at R600.
An additional arrest was made by immigration officials, although authorities have not disclosed the identities of those arrested or the offences they face.
The operation involved SAPS, Correctional Services, Traffic, Immigration officials and the Thuthuzela Care Centre.
Operation Basadi forms part of national efforts to combat gender-based violence and femicide and improve the safety of women and children.
