Former KwaZulu-Natal ANC Provincial Secretary Bheki Mtolo has praised anti-illegal foreign nationals activist Phakelumthakathi Ndabandaba for promoting and restoring dignity to the South African flag during his campaigns.
Speaking on his TikTok platform, “Mtolo’s Thoughts”, Mtolo commended Phakelumthakathi for consistently wearing and displaying the South African flag during public activities and campaigns, saying many political parties, NGOs and civic organisations have failed to do the same.
“I think that as political parties, NGOs and civic organisations in general, we can learn something from Phakelumthakathi about giving value to the South African flag,” said Mtolo.
He compared the activist’s use of the national flag to political campaigns in the United States, where both the Democratic and Republican parties prominently use the American flag during election campaigns.
“We know this always happens in America, where both political parties, the Democrats and Republicans, during their presidential campaigns only use the American flag. This man has done something extraordinary to raise the consciousness of the people to value the South African flag,” he said.
Mtolo further praised Phakelumthakathi for encouraging patriotism and respect for national symbols.
“The value of the flag of the nation, the value of the flag of the country — on that, Phakelumthakathi, ntsizwa kithi, I salute you,” he said.
“I don’t want to touch on other things, but on the issue of the flag — uyindoda,” added Mtolo.
