The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned that a powerful cold front will make landfall over the Western and Northern Cape on Sunday, bringing cold to very cold, wet and windy conditions, rough seas and snowfall over mountainous areas.
The weather system is expected to spread to the Eastern Cape before moving inland on Monday, with rain and showers forecast across much of the country. Snow is expected over the mountains of the Free State, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.
SAWS warned of possible localised flooding, damaging winds, hazardous sea conditions, power outages and dangerous driving conditions. Snow could also lead to mountain pass closures and transport disruptions.
The weather service has urged the public, motorists, farmers and disaster management authorities to monitor official forecasts and take the necessary precautions as the system moves across the country.
