Bafana Bafana strengthened their bid to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations after cruising to a 5-0 victory over Eritrea in Cairo on Wednesday night.
South Africa produced a dominant display at the Al Salam Stadium to secure their second consecutive win in Group D and move onto six points at the top of the group.
Relebohile Mofokeng was the standout performer, scoring twice in the first half to give Bafana a commanding 2-0 lead at the break.
Sphephelo Sithole added a third in the 52nd minute before Iqraam Rayners made it 4-0 just after the hour mark. Substitute Luther Singh completed the rout with a stoppage-time strike.
The result marked another positive start for coach Pitso Mosimane, who began his latest spell in charge with a 2-1 victory over Guinea before Wednesday’s emphatic win.
South Africa will return to action in the qualifiers in November, when they face Kenya in back-to-back Group D fixtures.
Bafana will next face Egypt in a friendly on Sunday, 4 October, in Cairo.
