Umalusi warns of exam irregularities and election disruptions

Umalusi has warned against examination irregularities and disruptions as 1,079,879 candidates prepare for the 2026 final examinations starting on 13 October.

Umalusi CEO Dr Mafu Rakometsi said examination bodies have systems to identify and manage irregularities, while candidates were urged to avoid unlawful means of gaining an advantage.

Umalusi remains concerned about recurring irregularities involving ISAT, PAT and ICASS at DHET colleges and will deploy officials to monitor examinations.

Rakometsi also warned teachers and principals against preventing registered learners from writing examinations to improve results, urging parents and learners to report such incidents.

The 4 November local government elections could also disrupt examinations through political activities and community protests. Umalusi has called on political and community leaders, schools and parents to minimise disruptions, particularly around examination centres that will also serve as voting stations.
