Matlala resumes testimony at Madlanga Commission

Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala is continuing his testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where he is being questioned about allegations of criminality, corruption and political interference within South Africa’s criminal justice system.

Matlala has confirmed his past prison sentence and is facing questions about his relationships with senior police officers, his business dealings with the state and alleged links to the criminal underworld.

When Matlala appeared before the Commission last week, he had not filed his supplementary affidavit, which is expected to address questions from the evidence leaders. His advocate, Annelene van den Heever, said the defence had received more than 2,000 pages of material, with bundles only served the previous afternoon.

Matlala is expected to address the outstanding questions as his testimony continues. Last week, he read through his statement but refused to answer questions relating to matters before the courts, including his Medicare24 Tshwane contract with SAPS, for which he is due to stand trial next month.
