Media personality Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye is back in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court today as his case over an alleged firearm incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale continues. The matter was previously postponed to 24 August to allow police to conduct further investigations.
The incident allegedly occurred on 14 June 2026 after the e-hailing driver dropped off a female passenger at a residence in Edenvale. Police allege that Maarohanye confronted the driver, accusing him of having a romantic relationship with his girlfriend. The situation allegedly escalated, with the driver allegedly being forced into a vehicle and prevented from leaving before a shot was fired in his direction. The driver escaped unharmed and reported the incident to police.
Maarohanye was arrested following the incident and initially faced charges including kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm and defeating the ends of justice. However, the charges were later amended, and he now faces charges relating to discharging a firearm in a public place and pointing an object likely to make a person believe it was a firearm.
During the investigation, police searched Maarohanye’s residence and allegedly seized a pellet gun. He was released on R5,000 bail after approaching the Gauteng Division of the High Court in Johannesburg, which granted his urgent application on 16 June.
Maarohanye has denied the allegations. Speaking outside the Germiston court after his previous appearance, he questioned the State’s version of events and insisted there was no gun involved.
The case was postponed in June because investigations were still underway. Prosecutors are expected to provide an update on the progress of the investigation during today’s proceedings, while Maarohanye remains out on bail
