Ward 19 Residents and Ratepayers have thrown their support behind an independent candidate, saying the community needs experienced, connected and accountable leadership.
The movement says its candidate, who was born in Matatiele, understands the community and can communicate in languages including isiXhosa and Sesotho.
Residents have raised concerns over crime, electricity and water interruptions, illegal dumping, potholes, poor maintenance of public spaces and healthcare facilities.
The group says these challenges should not become accepted as normal and is calling for stronger oversight of municipal services and projects.
It also wants residents to have a greater say in municipal planning, arguing that development projects must reflect genuine community priorities.
The movement says an independent candidate can put residents’ interests ahead of party politics while providing stronger oversight of municipal administration.
Its message to voters is clear:
“NOTHING ABOUT US WITHOUT US!”
The group says Ward 19 needs leadership that listens to residents, works with them and holds local government accountable.
