Pitso Mosimane has urged Bafana Bafana to remain focused when they take on Eritrea in their second 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Cairo on Wednesday night.
South Africa head into the 18:00 kick-off at the Al-Salam Stadium on the back of a 2-1 victory over Guinea, but Mosimane has warned his players that Eritrea cannot be underestimated.
Eritrea held Kenya to a 1-1 draw in Nairobi in their opening Group D match, giving them an early point in the qualifying campaign.
“I am happy with the result we got (in the first qualifier against Guinea), we got the result, and even the attitude was good. We need to show the same attitude against Eritrea because you can’t give respect to Guinea and not accord the same to an Eritrea side that just claimed a point away from home in Kenya,” said Mosimane.
Eritrea are hosting the fixture in Egypt because they do not have a CAF-accredited stadium in their home country.
Bafana captain Ronwen Williams said the squad remains positive and has responded well to the tactical changes introduced by Mosimane.
“The spirit and the energy amongst ourselves is always good and we have maintained that. The guys have been open to all the changes that the coach has implemented,” said Williams.
South Africa will be targeting another positive result as they continue their Group D campaign.
