Police in Duncan Village have launched a murder investigation after three men were brutally gunned down in what appears to have been a targeted execution in Bhebhelele Informal Settlement, KuGompo City.
The shocking incident unfolded late on Tuesday night, 19 May 2026, sending waves of fear through the community.
According to police, officers responded to reports of gunfire in Jiba Street at approximately 23:20. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered spent cartridges scattered outside a shack. Inside the dwelling, they found the bodies of three adult men riddled with bullets.
The victims, aged 28, 36 and 37, were declared dead at the scene after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Police also recovered several spent cartridges and bullet heads inside the shack, indicating the ferocity of the attack.
A witness told investigators that the three men had allegedly arrived at the shack shortly before the shooting. Finding the structure locked, they reportedly forced their way inside while instructing the witness to remain outside and warn them if the owner returned.
Moments later, four unknown gunmen allegedly appeared and opened fire inside the shack without warning.
“The witness stated that four unknown males approached and started shooting at the victims inside the shack,” police said.
The brazen attack has left residents shaken, with many describing the area as increasingly plagued by violent crime and deadly shootings.
Police have not yet established a motive for the murders, and no arrests have been made.
“The motive for the shooting is currently unknown, and investigations are continuing,” police confirmed.
Authorities say the identities of the deceased are known but will only be released once their families have been informed.
The triple murder is the latest in a string of violent incidents to rock parts of the Eastern Cape, raising fresh concerns about escalating gun violence in informal settlements.
