A 16-year-old boy was arrested in Malmesbury, Western Cape, on Monday, 17 August 2026, for alleged involvement in accessing, possessing, and distributing child sexual abuse material.
The operation was carried out by SAPS’ National Serial and Electronic Crime Investigations (SECI) Team, working with the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, the US Embassy, and the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children.
Authorities say the teenager was linked to violent online networks known as “764,” associated with child exploitation and other criminal activity.
He was arrested at his home, where electronic devices containing explicit material were seized. Several child victims have already been identified, and the devices will undergo forensic analysis to determine the full extent of the offences.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Malmesbury Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 18 August 2026.
Investigations into possible fraud and money laundering are ongoing.
