Zuma-Sambudla and Ndhlela challenge MK Party expulsions in court

Expelled uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party members Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla and Nhlamulo Ndhlela are challenging their expulsions from the party in the South Gauteng High Court.

The pair, who previously served as MK Party MPs, were expelled in June following disciplinary proceedings in which the party accused them of gross misconduct.

The MK Party said their conduct undermined party unity, discipline and its recognised leadership structures.

Zuma-Sambudla and Ndhlela are now asking the court to review and set aside the decisions to expel them.

They argue that the expulsions were unlawful and unfair and that the party failed to follow proper internal disciplinary procedures.

Ndhlela is also seeking the restoration of his position as a Member of Parliament.

The two have further alleged that individuals close to MK Party leader and former president Jacob Zuma played a role in the decisions against them. They have, however, maintained that their dispute is with those involved in the disciplinary process and is not directed at Zuma personally.

The MK Party has defended the expulsions, maintaining that its national leadership found the conduct of Zuma-Sambudla and Ndhlela to be inconsistent with the party’s constitutional principles and organisational interests.
