A warrant of arrest has been authorised for former National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula after she failed to appear in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Friday for the continuation of her corruption and money-laundering trial.
The warrant has been held over until 11 November 2026, when the trial is scheduled to resume.
Mapisa-Nqakula was expected to return to the witness stand after proceedings were cut short on Tuesday when she became unwell.
Her legal representative, Advocate Siyabulela Mapoma, submitted a medical certificate to the court and requested that the matter be postponed. The State did not oppose the postponement after receiving the medical report.
Mapisa-Nqakula faces 12 counts of corruption and one count of money laundering relating to allegations that she solicited about R4.5 million from defence contractor Nombasa Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu between 2016 and 2019, during her tenure as Defence Minister.
The State alleges that about R2.1 million was received in cash. Mapisa-Nqakula has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.
The court has postponed the trial to 11–20 November, with a further sitting scheduled from 30 November to 4 December 2026.
