The SAPS Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has arrested a mayor, municipal manager and chief financial officer of a municipality on the southern coast of the Western Cape over alleged corruption linked to a security services contract.
According to police, the arrests follow an investigation into allegations that a businessman who had been awarded a municipal security services contract was solicited for kickbacks in exchange for the continuation of the contract.
The businessman allegedly paid hundreds of thousands of rands after being pressured and fearing that his contract would be terminated if he refused to make the payments.
The three senior municipal officials are facing charges of corruption.
They are expected to appear in court on Monday, 5 October 2026.
