Tete murder accused back in court

The bail application of Uzuzole Goqwana and Sinebhongo Qase, accused in the murder of former two-time boxing world champion Zolani Tete, resumes at the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Investigating officer Nkululeko Mtati is expected to face further cross-examination by the defence.

The State is opposing bail, arguing that the seriousness of the charges and the possibility of the accused being flight risks warrant their continued detention.

Goqwana, 22, allegedly linked Tete’s death to a personal dispute, claiming the boxer threatened him with a firearm after discovering his relationship with his estranged wife.

The claim was contained in an affidavit read in court during the bail proceedings.

Tete was gunned down outside his Mdantsane home on 21 August. His companion was also wounded in the attack.
