Alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi is back in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday as proceedings continue in the case linked to an alleged staged assassination attempt.
Mogotsi is facing charges including perjury, defeating the ends of justice, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, and discharging a firearm in a public or municipal area. The charges stem from allegations that he staged an attempt on his own life in Vosloorus in November 2025.
His return to court follows a postponement earlier this month to allow the State to provide the defence with the remainder of the investigation docket.
The court previously rejected Mogotsi’s bid to obtain the identities and addresses of State witnesses. The prosecution opposed the disclosure, citing concerns about witness safety.
Mogotsi has also been unsuccessful in his attempts to secure his release from custody. The Gauteng High Court dismissed his latest bail appeal in July, leaving him behind bars as the criminal proceedings continue.
The State alleges that the shooting was staged, while Mogotsi has previously disputed allegations against him.
