Fadiel Adams expected to appear before Madlanga Commission

Suspended Member of Parliament and National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams is expected to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry today, where he is set to face intense questioning over his controversial Section 27 affidavit and his handling of sensitive Crime Intelligence documents.

Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, who chairs the commission, is expected to question Adams on how he obtained classified vetting files that later formed the basis of corruption complaints against senior Crime Intelligence officials, including unit head Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo.

Adams has maintained that the documents were anonymously delivered to his parliamentary office and that he acted in the public interest by bringing their contents to the attention of law enforcement authorities.

However, concerns have been raised over whether Adams lawfully handled the classified material and whether his use of restricted intelligence documents to open criminal cases amounted to a breach of state security protocols.

His credibility has also come under scrutiny following repeated delays in submitting evidence to the commission, including his claim that a parliamentary laptop malfunctioned. Justice Madlanga previously dismissed the explanation.

Adams’s appearance comes amid growing controversy surrounding the Crime Intelligence investigation. The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) has raised questions about aspects of the probe, while the fallout has included the resignation of former IDAC head Andrea Johnson.
