Cat Matlala to appear before Madlanga Commission under oath

Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala is expected to appear before the Madlanga Commission on Monday, 17 August, after being subpoenaed to testify under oath.

Matlala has been called to appear before the commission after his court case, relating to an attempted murder charge, was postponed until 31 August.

He is facing multiple serious charges, including 11 counts of attempted murder, linked to alleged failed assassinations targeting his former partner, Tebogo Thobejane, taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni and music producer Seunkie Mokubung, also known as DJ Vettys.

Matlala’s appearance before the commission had previously been postponed, with his legal team requesting additional time to prepare.

His lawyer, Advocate Van den Heever, explained on Wednesday that the postponement of Matlala’s criminal case could make it difficult for his client to address some of the allegations he is expected to respond to before the commission.

Matlala is expected to face questions about allegations of corruption, criminal interference and his alleged links to senior police officials and other influential figures.

He has also been linked to the controversial multimillion-rand SAPS healthcare contract, which has come under scrutiny during the commission’s proceedings.

The Madlanga Commission is investigating allegations of criminality, corruption and political interference within the country’s criminal justice system.
