South Africa has recorded 441 consecutive days without load shedding, with Eskom attributing the milestone to improved power station performance, lower unplanned outages and significantly reduced diesel use.
The utility said the country has been free of load shedding since 16 May 2025, while electricity demand was met 100% of the time between 1 April and 30 July 2026. Eskom’s Winter Outlook also indicates no load shedding is expected until 31 August.
Eskom reported that its Energy Availability Factor (EAF) reached 82.04% on 26 July—the highest daily level since 2017. Unplanned outages have also fallen sharply, while diesel spending dropped by 85.67%, from R5.63 billion last year to R807.41 million this financial year.
Despite the progress, Eskom said load reduction continues in some areas affected by illegal connections, meter tampering and network overloading.
The utility added that about 1.2 million customers have been removed from load reduction schedules, with six provinces now completely free of load reduction. Nationwide eradication of load reduction remains on track for 2027.
