The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested several people for looting and attempted looting during nationwide protests, despite demonstrations remaining largely peaceful.
Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia said police are on high alert and have been instructed to act swiftly against anyone involved in looting, public violence, intimidation or damage to property.
“We urge citizens to exercise their constitutional rights responsibly. Those who exploit the marches to commit criminal acts will face the full might of the law,” he said.
Natjoints Chairperson Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili said law enforcement remains fully deployed, warning that anyone who breaks the law should expect swift and decisive action.
