The ANC has reaffirmed its support for firm but lawful immigration enforcement, saying government is strengthening border security, deporting undocumented migrants, combating fraud and enforcing immigration laws while respecting human dignity.
The party rejected vigilantism and xenophobia, stressing that immigration enforcement is the responsibility of the democratic state and not political groups or individuals seeking to create instability and division within communities.
The ANC also highlighted the role African countries played in supporting South Africa’s liberation struggle, saying the country should not repay that solidarity with hatred or violence.
The party said the solution lies in stronger border management, protecting local jobs and businesses, and advancing a coordinated continental approach to migration through the African Union rather than promoting violence, fear or division.
