Three arrested for Jumpers informal settlement mass shooting

Three Lesotho nationals have been arrested in connection with the mass shooting at Jumpers Informal Settlement that left 13 people dead and 14 others injured on 9 June 2026.

The suspects, aged 26, 32 and 36, were arrested on 23 June at KwaMaiMai Informal Settlement following an intelligence-driven operation involving several specialised SAPS units. Police also recovered more than 100 rounds of 9mm live ammunition from one suspect’s residence.

The arrests follow the deployment of additional resources by Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni to track down those responsible for the deadly attack.

Mthombeni praised the investigating team, saying: “This team demonstrated unwavering commitment and exceptional skill in arresting the perpetrators responsible for these heinous murders and attempted murders.”

He added: “They have worked day and night since this incident, sacrificing their own comfort and safety. We hope the arrests bring solace to the families of the victims.”

The trio is expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on 25 June 2026 on charges of murder and attempted murder.

Police investigations are continuing as authorities search for additional suspects linked to the massacre.
