Several shops were inspected during a health compliance raid in Mbizana Town aimed at cracking down on poor hygiene and unsafe food-handling practices.
The operation was conducted by Alfred Nzo District Municipality’s Municipal Health Services, together with Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality, SAPS, the Department of Employment and Labour, Home Affairs Immigration officials and Veterinary Public Health Officers.
Officials inspected various shops and food-handling premises, checking cleanliness, food storage, handling practices and compliance with health regulations.
They also checked food products for expired, damaged and improperly stored goods, while business owners and food handlers were reminded of their responsibility to maintain safe hygiene standards.
The municipality says regular inspections are essential to protect consumers, prevent foodborne illnesses and ensure that businesses comply with environmental health regulations.
