Police have arrested two men in connection with the murder of well-known boxer Zolani Tete, who was fatally shot at NU 17 in Mdantsane on Friday, 21 August 2026.
The men, aged 30 and 22, were apprehended in Ku Gompo on Saturday, 22 August, following a swift, intelligence-driven operation involving multiple law enforcement units.
They are being questioned in connection with Tete’s murder and the attempted murder of a 27-year-old woman, who was wounded during the shooting.
The arrests come as investigators intensify their efforts to establish exactly what happened during the deadly attack and identify everyone involved.
Police remain tight-lipped about the motive and circumstances surrounding the arrests, citing the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation.
“Due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation, the SAPS is unable to disclose further details regarding the motive or the circumstances surrounding the arrests at this time,” police said.
Investigators are following several leads, with police indicating that more arrests are imminent.
The SAPS has urged the public and media to refrain from speculation and the circulation of unverified information, warning that this could compromise the investigation and the integrity of future court proceedings.
Police have commended the multidisciplinary team for its swift action and appealed to anyone with credible information to come forward.
