Umzimvubu Local Municipality is celebrating another major achievement after being recognised for its strong governance and financial management at the Eastern Cape SALGA Provincial Assembly in KuGompo, Buffalo City Metro, on Tuesday night.
The municipality was honoured after securing Clean Audit opinions for two consecutive years, placing its financial management and accountability record in the spotlight.
The recognition is a significant boost for Umzimvubu, reflecting efforts by the municipality’s political leadership and administration to ensure public funds are managed responsibly and in line with legislative requirements.
But the municipality’s success did not stop there.
As the country marks Women’s Month, Umzimvubu Mayor Cllr Zukiswa Ndevu was also recognised under the Municipal Women Leadership Excellence category.
Ndevu was among women mayors acknowledged for their performance and leadership in their respective municipalities.
Municipal Manager Tobela Nota accepted the recognitions on behalf of Umzimvubu.
Nota said the accolades reaffirmed the municipality’s growing reputation for good governance and excellence.
“The achievements reaffirm Umzimvubu’s growing reputation as a municipality committed to excellence, accountability and sound governance,” said Nota.
For Umzimvubu, the latest recognition represents more than an award. It is a public acknowledgement of the municipality’s progress in strengthening financial controls and promoting accountable administration.
Mayor Ndevu said the recognition also brings an increased responsibility to maintain the standards that earned the municipality the accolades.
“As the municipality celebrates these achievements, the recognition also places greater responsibility on us as the political leadership and administration to maintain the standards that have earned this acknowledgement and to continue putting the interests and development of Umzimvubu communities first,” said Ndevu.
