Tyla dismisses Roc Nation speculation, opens up about making APOP in South Africa*

Tyla has dismissed reports claiming she has signed a global deal with Roc Nation, despite
widespread speculation sparked by a digital billboard featuring the singer in New York's Times
Square.
The rumours gained traction after several publications suggested the Grammy-winning artist had
joined Jay-Z's entertainment company. However, Tyla is not listed on Roc Nation's official artist
roster and continues to appear among the artists signed to Epic Records, indicating she remains
with the label.
While putting the speculation to rest, Tyla has shifted the focus to her upcoming sophomore
album, APOP*, which is scheduled for release on July 24.
The Johannesburg-born star has been building anticipation for the project through live
performances and social media, while also sharing insight into the inspiration behind the album.
Tyla revealed that she chose to complete the record in South Africa, hosting a recording camp at
a lodge in the Cradle of Humankind to reconnect with childhood memories and draw inspiration
from nature.
She said the peaceful surroundings, complete with monkeys, insects and the outdoors, helped her
reconnect with her younger self during the creative process. Despite the logistical challenges of
setting up recording equipment in the bush, Tyla described the experience as unforgettable,
joking that creating the album felt like filming The Lion King.
