Cachalia warns against violence ahead of 30 June demonstrations

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has called on law enforcement officers to uphold the law “without fear, favour or prejudice” during the planned nationwide demonstrations on 30 June.

Speaking in Durban, Cachalia said SAPS would protect the rights of peaceful protesters while acting decisively against violence, intimidation and vandalism.

Meanwhile, government has confirmed that 30 June will be a normal working day and warned that any unlawful behaviour will be met with the full force of the law.

Justice Minister Mmamaloko Kubayi also reminded the public that only authorised law enforcement officials may request identification documents and that blocking access to schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services is illegal.
