A 45-year-old municipal employee has been released on warning after appearing in the Ezibeleni Magistrate’s Court for allegedly possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Malibongwe Xelisilo was arrested on 31 August by Ilinge Crime Prevention Unit members after he allegedly threatened spaza shop employees and went to his vehicle to retrieve a firearm.
Police later stopped his vehicle and found a Norinco firearm with its serial number filed off, a magazine and six rounds of ammunition.
Xelisilo appeared in court on 2 September and was released on warning. The matter was postponed to 23 October 2026 for further investigation.
District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph commended police for their swift response and condemned the alleged conduct of the municipal official.
